Aglianico del Taburno DOCG
The Sannio's Aglianico DOCG, from limestone and clay hills on the Taburno massif rather than the volcanic soils of Taurasi. The wines are a touch rounder and earlier-drinking than Taurasi: black cherry, plum, violet, tobacco, licorice and a dusty, medium-plus tannin with fresh acidity. Riserva needs three years of aging and ages well for a decade. The rosato, made from the same grape, is one of Campania's best pink wines and worth a detour.
