Aleatico di Puglia DOC
Aleatico is an aromatic red grape related to Muscat, and this region wide DOC covers its sweet and fortified versions. The wine is bright ruby to garnet with an unmistakable nose of rose petal, wild strawberry, orange peel and cherry, sweet on the palate but lifted by aromatic intensity and moderate tannin. The liquoroso version is fortified to 18.5%. Very little is bottled under the DOC today; most Aleatico from Salento goes out as IGT.
