Assisi DOC

A small DOC on the hills below Assisi that is nearly synonymous with one producer, Sportoletti, who bottles both a Grechetto and a Sangiovese-Merlot Rosso under the name. Assisi Grechetto is a mid-weight white with pear, almond, white flowers and moderate acidity; the Rosso is soft and fruity with cherry, plum and gentle tannin, made for early drinking. Sportoletti's serious wines (Villa Fidelia) are labeled IGT, so the DOC bottlings are the entry level, but they're well made and Sportoletti has a longstanding US importer.

Still hunting

I'm still looking for a bottle of this.

If you make Assisi, import it, or know who does, the form takes two minutes and I reply to every one.

Can you help me get one?
