Atina DOC
An odd one: a DOC for Bordeaux grapes in a mountain valley of southern Lazio, where a 19th century agronomist, Pasquale Visocchi, planted French vines. The blend needs at least 50% Cabernet Sauvignon; the varietal Cabernet needs 85%. Wines are medium bodied and cool climate in feel: black currant, green pepper, tobacco, cedar and firm, slightly rustic tannin. Cominium is the only producer with any reach.
