Brindisi DOC
Negroamaro based reds from the flat, hot land around the port of Brindisi, close cousins of Salice Salentino but often a touch riper and more rustic. Aromas of black plum, dried cherry, tobacco, carob and Mediterranean herbs, with medium tannin and a bitter chocolate finish. The 2011 rewrite added varietal Susumaniello, which some producers now use for their most interesting reds. Riservas from Vallone and Rubino show how well the grape ages.
