Cesanese del Piglio (Piglio) DOCG
Lazio's most important red and its first red DOCG. Cesanese ripens late and gives a medium bodied red with sour cherry, wild strawberry, black pepper, dried rose and a distinct bitter herbal note, medium tannin and lively acid. Old fashioned versions were sweetish; the modern producers (Casale della Ioria, Coletti Conti, Terenzi, Marcella Giuliani) make dry, savory wines that drink like a cross between Sangiovese and Grenache.
