Chianti Classico DOCG

The historic core of Chianti, marked by the black rooster, and since 2021 subdivided into eleven UGA villages (Radda, Panzano, Lamole, Castelnuovo Berardenga, and so on) for Gran Selezione. Sangiovese here shows sour cherry, dried rose, orange peel, and a distinctive dusty, savory tannin; higher sites like Radda and Lamole give pale, perfumed, high-acid wines, while Castelnuovo Berardenga in the south gives darker, riper ones. The annata is a food wine at 13 to 14%, riserva adds a year of age and depth, and the best Gran Selezione bottlings compete with Brunello.
