Colli Pesaresi DOC

A catch-all DOC for the northernmost corner of the Marche, where the wines have more in common with Romagna than with Ancona. Sangiovese is the main red: mid-weight, sour cherry, dried herbs, earthy tannin and bright acidity, usually cheap and unpretentious. The Focara subzone allows Pinot Nero, a curiosity on the Adriatic coast. Fiorini and Guerrieri are the producers most likely to show up outside Italy, and the wines are useful mostly as a way to tick the box on the way to more interesting things.
