Colline Lucchesi DOC

The gentle hills behind Lucca, cooler and wetter than central Tuscany, with a strong biodynamic scene led by Tenuta di Valgiano. Reds are Sangiovese blends with Merlot and Syrah, less tannic and more perfumed than Chianti: red cherry, violet, pepper, wet stone, and fresh acid. Whites are Vermentino-based, herbal and saline. It's a small, underrated zone with real character.
