Esino DOC
Esino is a catch-all DOC created so that Verdicchio country could also bottle simple reds and blended whites that don't fit the Castelli di Jesi or Matelica rules. The whites are Verdicchio-based and drink like a lighter, cheaper Verdicchio: green apple, citrus, almond. The reds are Sangiovese and Montepulciano blends, soft, cherry-scented and made for drinking within a couple of years. Almost nobody exports under this name; the same producers put their good wine under the Verdicchio DOC or DOCG labels.
