Garda Colli Mantovani DOC

The Mantuan slice of the glacial hills below Lake Garda, a catch-all DOC for simple whites, rosés and reds from international and Veneto grapes. Whites are light and appley, sometimes with a Garganega bitterness; the Chiaretto rosé is pale and strawberry-scented; the reds are soft Merlot and Cabernet blends with plum and herbs. Most producers now use the multi-region Garda DOC instead, so the label is getting rarer. Ricchi is the estate to look for.
