Girò di Cagliari DOC
Girò is a red grape of probable Spanish origin that survives on a few dozen hectares around Cagliari. The DOC is chiefly for sweet and fortified reds: garnet, with dried cherry, prune, cocoa and a warm, slightly tannic finish somewhere between a light Recioto and a young tawny. Dry versions exist and taste like a soft, cherry scented Grenache. Production is minute and mostly drunk in Sardinia with cheese and dry pastries.
