Grignolino d'Asti DOC
Grignolino is Piedmont's pale, cranky, high-tannin light red, and Asti's version is usually the fresher, more delicate one. Expect a color closer to dark rosé than red, aromas of wild strawberry, white pepper, dried herbs and rose, then a surprising jolt of drying, pippy tannin and sharp acid on a light body. It's the classic aperitivo red of Asti, served cool with salami and agnolotti. A wine critics often underrate until they taste one with dinner.
