Grignolino del Monferrato Casalese DOC

The Casale side of grignolino, on sandier, calcareous soils, which tends to give a slightly fuller, more structured version than Asti's. Still pale ruby, still peppery and floral, with wild strawberry, pomegranate, dried rose and a bitter-herb finish, but the tannin has a bit more flesh around it. A few producers now age it in wood and prove it can go ten years. Accornero and the Monferace project have made this the more ambitious grignolino DOC.
