Grottino di Roccanova DOC
Named for the hundreds of rock-cut cellars (grottini) dug into the sandstone under Roccanova, where the wine was traditionally stored. The red is Sangiovese-led, mid-weight, with sour cherry, dried herbs, a dusty tannin and a rustic, earthy finish; the white from Malvasia is simple and floral. Production is tiny and almost all of it is drunk locally. It matters as a curiosity and as a piece of Lucanian farming history more than as a great wine.
