Ischia DOC
One of Italy's first DOCs and one of the last places where vineyards are worked on terraces reachable only on foot or by monorail. Biancolella is the star: a light, saline white with lemon, green pear, white flowers, dried thyme and a soft, chalky texture from the island's green tuff. Forastera is sharper and more herbal; Piedirosso is pale, earthy and cherry-scented. Casa D'Ambra and Antonio Mazzella have kept the island's viticulture alive, and their top crus (Frassitelli, Vigna del Lume) are the wines to seek out.
