Leverano DOC
Another Negroamaro township DOC in the Salento plain, dominated by the large Vecchia Torre cooperative and the Conti Zecca estate. The rosso is deep ruby with blackberry, dried plum, bay leaf and a licorice, bitter chocolate finish, moderate tannin and easy drinkability; riservas add leather and dried fig. Whites from Malvasia Bianca are simple and floral. Well made, sensibly priced, but rarely seen with the DOC on the label outside Italy.
