Montello Asolo (Asolo Montello) DOC
The still-wine DOC of the Asolo hills, the same land that produces Asolo Prosecco DOCG and Montello Rosso DOCG. Reds are the focus: Bordeaux varieties on clay and gravel, medium bodied, herbal and cedary, with the Venegazzù subzone marking the Loredan Gasparini estate's historic vineyards. Recantina, a nearly extinct local red revived in the 2000s, gives dark, spicy wines with plum and black pepper and is the most interesting thing to look for. Manzoni Bianco makes a floral, waxy white here.
