Monteregio di Massa Marittima DOC
A sprawling Maremma DOC that most local estates skip in favor of Maremma Toscana or Toscana IGT, which is why you rarely see the name on a label. The Sangiovese-based reds are sun-ripened and generous: black cherry, warm earth, macchia herbs, moderate acidity and rounded tannin. Whites from Vermentino are crisp, saline and simple. The zone's best-known names (Moris Farms, Massa Vecchia) use other designations, so the DOC itself is a minor player.
