Moscadello di Montalcino DOC

Montalcino's original wine, older than Brunello by centuries, and now a footnote made by a dozen or so Brunello houses. The still and frizzante versions are light, grapey and floral with orange blossom and peach, moderately sweet with fresh acidity, best young and chilled. The Vendemmia Tardiva versions are richer and oak-aged, with apricot, honey and candied citrus at 14 percent or so. Worth tasting once to understand the town's history.
