Ortona DOC
One of three single village DOCs created in Abruzzo in 2011, covering the coastal town of Ortona, home to the region's biggest cooperative and to Dora Sarchese's free wine fountain on the Cammino di San Tommaso. Almost nobody uses the label; growers prefer the better known Montepulciano d'Abruzzo name. What exists is straightforward coastal Montepulciano: ripe plum, soft tannin, moderate acid, made for the table.
