Riviera del Brenta DOC
Named for the canal lined with Palladian villas that runs from Padua to Venice, this is a flat, fertile zone making light, simple wines for the Venetian trattoria trade. Merlot and Cabernet reds are soft and grassy; Pinot Grigio and Tai whites are clean and neutral; a Raboso rosato and a Prosecco-style frizzante round it out. San Martino Vini (which absorbed Cantine Riviera del Brenta) produces most of the DOC. Pleasant with cicchetti, never memorable.
