Riviera Ligure di Ponente DOC
The western Riviera's umbrella DOC and the best place to understand Pigato, a spotted-skin clone of Vermentino that gives fuller, waxier whites with peach, sage, sea salt and a bitter almond finish. Vermentino from here is leaner and more citrus-driven. The reds (Rossese, Granaccia) are light, peppery and drink well slightly cool. This is the most exported Ligurian DOC and the natural starting point for the region.
