Sambuca di Sicilia DOC
Hills around the Lake Arancio reservoir in the southwest interior, where Planeta planted its first estate (Ulmo) and Feudo Arancio grows a huge volume. The climate is warm but the lake and altitude soften it; Chardonnay, Merlot and Nero d'Avola ripen fully with plum, blackberry, chocolate and rounded tannin. Nearly everyone labels Sicilia DOC or Terre Siciliane, so Sambuca di Sicilia DOC bottles are rare, with Di Prima the main estate still using it.
