Spoleto DOC
A white-only DOC created to give Trebbiano Spoletino a home. This grape has nothing to do with the bland Trebbiano Toscano: from old vines trained up trees it makes a structured, savory white with citrus peel, apricot, wild herbs, saline minerality and high acidity, and it takes to skin contact and oak aging well. The Montefalco producers (Antonelli, Tabarrini, Bea, Perticaia) have led the revival and several bottle it under the Spoleto DOC. It's one of the most exciting whites to emerge in central Italy in the last 15 years.
