Teroldego Rotaliano DOC
Teroldego's home, a flat alluvial plain where the Noce river meets the Adige, giving deep, glacial gravel soils. The wine is dark purple with blackberry, black cherry, violet, tar and a distinctive bitter-almond, iron edge, with lively acidity and moderate tannin; it's rounder and softer than Lagrein. The cooperative versions (Mezzacorona, Cavit) are easy, plummy weeknight reds; Foradori's estate wines from old vines are the reason the grape has a reputation, though her top bottlings now use IGT. Ages well for five to ten years.
