Terre dell'Alta Val d'Agri DOC
A mountain DOC built around Bordeaux grapes planted in the 1990s in a high, cool valley in the middle of Basilicata. The red is a Merlot-Cabernet blend with blackcurrant, plum, green herb and cedar notes, medium body, fresh acidity from the altitude and a moderately firm tannin. It's competent rather than compelling, and almost nobody outside the region has tasted it. A completist's appellation.
