Trebbiano d'Abruzzo DOC
Mostly a neutral, cheap white with lemon, green apple and little else, but the true Trebbiano Abruzzese in the hands of Valentini, Pepe and Tiberio (Fonte Canale) becomes something else: waxy, smoky, with chamomile, quince, wet stone and an ability to age 20 years. Acid is moderate, texture is the point. Taste a cheap one and a great one side by side and the gap is startling.
