Trentino DOC

The province-wide DOC of Trentino, dominated by the Cavit and Mezzacorona cooperatives, which send a great deal of clean Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay to the US. Beyond that lie two local specialties: Marzemino, a light red with violet, sour cherry and a bitter twist made famous by Mozart's Don Giovanni, and Nosiola, a nutty, light white that also makes Vino Santo, a rare passito from the Valle dei Laghi. Müller-Thurgau from high vineyards is crisp and grapey; Pinot Nero and Lagrein are improving. Expect fresh, correct, mountain-cool wines at fair prices.
