Valtellina Rosso (Rosso di Valtellina) DOC
The entry level of Valtellina Nebbiolo, from younger vines or lower terraces and released after six months rather than two years. It's pale, light-bodied mountain Nebbiolo with sour cherry, cranberry, dried rose, alpine herbs and a chalky, fine tannin, ready to drink young and often served slightly cool with pizzoccheri. Think of it as the Langhe Nebbiolo of the Alps, and a cheap way to taste the zone. Ar.Pe.Pe., Nino Negri, Rainoldi and Sandro Fay all make one.
