Velletri DOC
The southernmost Castelli Romani DOC and one of the few old ones that always allowed red. The reds are Sangiovese and Montepulciano with Cesanese, mid weight with cherry, plum, dried herbs and earthy tannin; the whites follow the Malvasia and Trebbiano formula, soft and almondy. Historically it was the Castelli's serious red, but today only the Velletri producers' consortium bottles much under the name.
