Amelia DOC

Formerly Colli Amerini, this southern Umbrian DOC covers a bit of everything but is most interesting for Ciliegiolo, a red grape that gives a light, sappy wine with wild cherry, raspberry, violet and soft tannin. The Grechetto whites are nutty and mid-weight; the Rosso is a Sangiovese blend with plum and earthy tannin. Cantina dei Colli Amerini, the local cooperative, makes most of it, and the Carbio Rosso Superiore is the one bottling with any export history.
