The town that gave Nero d'Avola its name sits in this DOC, which merged the old Moscato di Noto sweet wine appellation with a red category in 2008. Noto Nero d'Avola from the white limestone around Noto and Pachino is deep, with blackberry, black cherry, carob, dried herbs and a mineral, slightly salty finish with dusty tannin. Moscato di Noto is a golden, orange blossom and honey dessert wine, rarely seen. Planeta's Santa Cecilia and Mazzei's Zisola are the labels that travel.
